FUNDRAISING REGULATION CONSULTATION LAUNCHED 26/08/03

The Buse Commission's initial scoping report into the future of self-regulation for fundraising is open to public consultation.

The document floats various ideas that are intended as a basis for discussion to determine the scope of any regulatory system. Among the issues considered are: the fundraising sectors and methods that should be included; the development of codes of practice and a donor's promise (possibly modelled on the Institute of Fundraising's Donor's Charter); and complaint and adjudication mechanisms.

The report does not recommend any particular system of regulation, however. "The report puts a number of issues on the table to seriously advance the debate so we can have a constructive conversation during the autumn," says Buse. The results of the consultation will inform a recommended system to be put out for consultation early next year.

Visitors to the web site www.busecommission.org.uk can download the report, make a submission online or answer a questionnaire. The consultation runs until November 16.
