The
New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund have welcomed the announcement
of Sir Clive Booth as the new chair appointed to oversee their merger.
Sir Clive Booth will begin his 18-month appointment on June 1, and is currently
chair of the Central Police Training and Development Authority, as well
as deputy chair of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).
Announcing the appointment, Arts and Lottery Minister Estelle Morris said
Sir Clive will bring a fresh perspective to the distribution of lottery
money and will play a central role in the formation of the new, streamlined
distributor.
Chair of the New Opportunities Fund, Baroness Jill Pitkeathley comments:
"It has been a great privilege to chair the New Opportunities Fund for six
years. I am absolutely delighted to hear the news of Sir Clive Booth’s appointment.
"He takes the helm at an exciting and challenging time for the new
distributor and the Lottery as a whole. And I know that he will be an inspirational
leader and I will follow their progress with the utmost interest."
Chair of the Community Fund, Diana Brittan says: "I am really pleased to
welcome my successor. I know he will have the support of talented and committed
staff whom I have enjoyed working with immensely.
"I wish him and the new distributor every success in building on the
achievements of both organisations."
The new distributor will play a lead role in implementing the government’s
agenda to ensure lottery funding reach communities, to promote social inclusion
and partnership working, and to explore new ways of engaging the voluntary
sector.
The administrative merger of the two funds will take place when Sir Clive
takes up his post.
