ACD REBRAND TO FOCUS ON ENCOURAGING ACTIVE COMMUNITY ROLE 02/02/04

The Home Office's Active Communities Directorate (ACD) has unveiled a new brand identity, which aims to emphasise key characteristics of thriving communities.

The rebranded ACD, which is spearheading the government's drive to invigorate the voluntary sector, focuses on positive action and strength as it bids to encourage more people to take an active role in shaping their communities.

Fiona Mactaggart, Home Office Minister for Community Policy, says: "The best solutions to local issues are often those devised by local people and the organisations that work with them.

"We want to encourage that sort of democratic engagement, where people make a difference to their neighbourhood by taking an active role. It's about everyone, regardless of age, race or social background having a stake in society.

Helen Edwards, director-general of the Home Office Communities Group, says a thriving voluntary sector is "central to building active and cohesive communities".

She comments: "The ACD is working to strengthen the contribution that voluntary and community activity makes to a healthy civil society, and our new brand identity signals our commitment to this.

"The ACD seeks to support voluntary sector organisations, in many cases through grant funding, and we hope that they will be able to make use of the new brand identity."
