The Charity Commission launches a survey today asking charities for views
on how it can improve its performance.
The survey of 100
“key players” in charities, funding bodies, government and
the media, will ask for views on how it can improve its role as an advocate
for the sector and improve its communication and regulatory function.
It will particularly seek the views of those whose voices it says go unheard
in discussions on the charitable sector such as faith and trustee groups.
"We are looking
for new ways to engage and learn about how we can work with charities
and the public most effectively,” explains Charity Commission Chair,
Geraldine Peacock. “The charity sector is evolving and we need to
evolve with it. Only by listening to those inside charities and the public
who invest in them can we understand how best to develop our services
and facilitate the sector to maximise the opportunities available."
The results of the
survey, which will be completed by the end of the year, will then be made
public. It is hoped they will form the backdrop for a wider debate as
the commission considers its "future direction".
