Charity Commission and the Big Lottery Fund join forces to root out abuse 20/09/04

Simon Gillespie, chief executive of the Charity Commission and Stephen Dunmore, chief executive of the Big Lottery Fund (BLF) will today sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which has been drawn up to help combat any abuse within the sector.

Its purpose is to help ensure that lottery grants are used effectively by charities and are not mismanaged, either deliberately or because of faults within the organisation. By agreeing to exchange information, it is hoped that the commission and the BLF can quickly intervene where necessary and prevent any problems from escalating.

It is also believed that by sharing information, any trends can be identified and will help guidance and best practice be established to the benefit of the sector as a whole.
