The Social Enterprise Coalition has announced the 25 entrepreneurs
who will be joining the ranks of ‘social enterprise
ambassadors’, one of the key elements of the government’s
Social Enterprise Action Plan launched last year.
The ambassadors are tasked with raising public awareness
of social enterprises, championing them as practical solutions
to a range of social and environmental problems. There are
currently an estimated 55,000 social enterprises in the
UK with a combined turnover of £27bn per year.
Jonathan Bland, chief executive of the Social Enterprise
Coalition, said: “Currently just one in four people
know what social enterprise is, but this list of extremely
successful and inspiring people will change that. Soon everyone
will recognise that social enterprise is the business model
for the 21st century.”
