The Fundraising
Standards Board has unveiled its updated donor’s charter
following a consultation period which began in June this year.
The
new charter, known as the Fundraising Promise, focuses on
six areas in which FSB members will be accountable to their
donors, including commitment to standards, clarity and being
respectful of their wishes.
At the
same time, new research from YouGov and Which? has found
that nearly six in ten consumers (58%) said they would be
more likely to donate to a charity if they knew it was a
member of the FSB, with 18% saying they would be much more
likely.
The
FSB’s chief executive, Jon Scourse, said response
to the charter consultation had exceeded expectations, and
the resulting Fundraising Promise would ensure accountability
and greater confidence among donors. He added, “The
research evidence confirms that it is in the self-interest
of charities to sign up to the scheme, which will become
public in the New Year.”
