Funding boosts collaborative work |

There
has been a “marked rise in interest” from UK voluntary and community
groups looking for partnership work with other EU countries, according to
public funding specialist, Funding Finders.
The activity comes as a result of funding being diverted away from UK-based
organisations to other EU countries, in particular new Accession States
such as Latvia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Poland. The latter, for
example, has been allocated Euro 12.8 billion.
UK organisations are now recognising that in order to
access EU funds, they need to consider collaboration with overseas groups;
something Cath Whelan, Funding Finders managing director, says is beneficial
for the sectors both here and over the Channel.
"Britain has 20 years’ experience of managing
EU funded projects and this in itself, is becoming a valuable intellectual
commodity that could provide a source of income for voluntary organisations”,
she said. “The ability to bid for and administrate public funds
effectively is something that we could easily take for granted, but these
skills have real value to the new member states, which have to start adopting
new systems in order to make use of EU funding.”
