The voluntary sector
is being asked to participate in a consultation on the future of the Diana,
Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.
The Fund, which so
far has committed £34.2 million for work in the UK and £30.6
million for international work, is posing a series of questions relating
to its funding programmes – the responses to which will feed into
its future strategy.
Currently, the fund’s
mission is to help change the lives of neglected, marginalised people
in the UK and overseas. Inspired by the work of the Princess, it aims
to give priority to groups and causes that may otherwise find it hard
to gain support. The new programmes it is looking to launch are likely
to resemble its Palliative Care Initiative, which helps HIV/AIDS sufferers
in Africa, or its Landmine Action on Explosive Remnants of War programme.
Dr Astrid Honeyman,
chief executive of the Fund, said: “Over the next five years or
so, we intend to build on the outstanding humanitarian work the Fund has
achieved to date.”
The Future of the
Fund consultation is open until 30 January 2006. For more information
or a copy of the consultation pact, email consultation@memfund.org.uk
or call 020 7902 5500.
