| Rural
communities can be transformed if charities and parish councils
learn how to cooperate, the NCVO has said.
A new report published by the umbrella group, A Broader
Parish: Working together, improving local communities,
says charities in rural areas have the ability to directly
impact on their communities and meet specific local needs.
“Our report shows that voluntary and community organisations
and parish councils both play a key role in building strong
communities," said NCVO's rural policy officer Claire
Steel. "If given greater responsibilities and support
they will use their knowledge and ability to mobilise the
community to enact real change and make a difference.”
But the report also illuminates areas of confusion, where
parish councils and volunteer organisations fail to maximize
their potential. The report is based upon cases studies
of three rural parishes in Devon.
