| London’s
voluntary and community sector will receive £28 million
in funding throughout the coming year, London Councils has
announced.
The funding will directed towards those organisations working
with children living in poverty, the homeless and people
living with disabilities. “We recognise the important
role the voluntary sector plays in supporting the needs
of London’s diverse communities,” said London
Councils chair Merrick Cockell.
The funding priorities were decided following consultation
with London’s voluntary sector and Mayor Ken Livingstone.
Organisations dealing with the victims of crime, the promotion
of recycling and the 2012 Olympics will also benefit.
