We are listening, says Big Lottery Fund
15/11/05

The Big Lottery Fund (BLF) has listened to the sector and has responded to its needs. This was the message of the lottery distributor’s director of policy, Vanessa Potter, during her speech at today’s (15 November) Funding the Future conference from Action Planning.

She told delegates how the BLF had taken on board many of the suggestions made during its two consultation phases, including that it will be supporting the principle of Full Cost Recovery, that the application process will be simplified, and that it will offer longer term contracts.

“You told us that three year contracts were not the answer in order for us to support sustainability. So within our main programmes five year funding streams will be available and within our strategic funding programmes some ten year opportunities will be offered,” she said.

Potter also reiterated the fact that the board has promised to allocate 60-70% of funding to the voluntary and community sector. “This undertaking is a very serious matter for us, and we are looking at how it will be measured and monitored,” she said.

Funding programmes are to be split into two main areas: demand-led programmes, which will include the Awards for All scheme, research grants, international grants and demand-led streams within its strategic programme; and strategic programmes, which will distribute funds under thirteen headings ranging from children’s play projects to environment schemes to community building initiatives.
