Planned giving continues to grow in popularity, according to new figures
released today at the Charities Aid Foundation’s annual conference.
According to the research,
donations from payroll giving were up £5 million in 2003/2004 to
£91 million, with 60% of the UK’s 250 FTSE operating a payroll
giving scheme.
The report also showed
strong growth in the amount of donations Gift Aided, with donations using
the tax relief up to £2.7 billion, an increase of 12% in real terms
and a £580 million bonus from the Inland Revenue.
“We’re
beginning to see the beneficial result of charities investing in systems
for Gift Aid,” said CAF chief executive Stephen Ainger at the conference.
“The added value to charities which are made through regular tax-efficient
methods cannot be overstated.”
The figures follow
news earlier this week that Sharing the Caring one of the UK’s leading
promoters of payroll giving is to merge with CAF.
