A
new qualification in charity finance will be available across
the UK from September, following a successful trial at London
South Bank University.
The qualification - the Certificate in Charity Finance and
Accountancy - was devised by the Chartered Institute of Public
Finance and Accountancy to meet the needs of those working
in charity finance who do not yet hold a recognised finance
or accountancy qualification. It is supported by the Workforce
Hub and the Charity Finance Directors Group.
Steve Freer, chief executive of CIPFA, said the qualification
was the Institute’s contribution to driving up standards
of good financial management and governance in the sector.
“With many organisations in the sector now taking
on roles and public service providers it is vital that taxpayers
and donors can have real confidence in the rigour, robustness
and professionalism of the arrangements which operate charities
large and small,” he said.
Nigel Scott, course director at London South Bank University,
said: “The success of the pilot scheme has shown us
how useful this qualification can be to improving the quality
of financial management and governance in the voluntary
and community sector. We look forward to working with a
broad range of individuals across the UK who can now benefit
from this course.”
