New investment programme for not-for-profits 27/03/06

A new programme from the London Business School (LBS) aims to provide senior professionals from foundations and endowments with the latest thinking on investment strategy.

The Foundation and Endowment Asset Management programme will cover asset allocation, portfolio construction and sustainable spending, as well as global market expectations, performance measurement and mission related investing. The LBS said the programme had been developed to be affordable for those in the charitable and philanthropic sector, with a number of places on the programme being heavily subsidised.

The leader of the programme, Elroy Dimson, BGI professor of investment management at the LBS said: “To our knowledge this is Europe’s first substantial educational initiative on investment by not-for-profit organisations. There is a clear disparity in Europe in the way foundations are managed… this programme is part of a wider effort to improve the investment, governance and spending decisions made by charities, foundations, endowments and their advisors.”
