FPB 2006 bank survey launched 07/03/06

The Forum of Private Business (FPB) is launching the latest of its biennial bank surveys examining the relationship between banks and small business. It will provide in-depth research into the question of how effectively banks are implementing the recommendations made by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) following the Cruickshank Report of 2000.

The study will be run by the University of Nottingham Business School, and will consider factors including the quality of bank service characteristics, the impact of bank strategy, bank-switching behaviour and alternative banking channels. More than 20,000 bank customers, including some charities, will take part in the survey.

The Cruickshank Report had condemned the big four banks for overcharging small businesses. The 2004 FPB bank survey found variations in bank performance, and confusion among small and medium businesses over issues relating to bank charges and interest on current accounts. There was also little evidence of an increase in bank switching.
