| Three
quarters of funders recognise that they have a key role to play in encouraging
collaborative working in the sector and 65% intended to fund collaborative
working in future, according to new research.
A survey of trusts, government and local authority funders
by the NCVO’s Collaborative Working Unit attempted to establish
respondents’ awareness of collaborative working arrangements. It
found mixed knowledge. While 90% were aware of less formal forms of collaborative
working, such as sharing good practice and networking, there was less
awareness of formal collaborations methods, with only half mentioning
back office collaboration and joint projects, and just a third campaigning
and lobbying alliances.
CWU manager Kate Aldous
said greater understanding would benefit the sector: “By building
up a good, broad understanding of what collaboration involved and where
support can be found funders will be more able to fulfil this role as
‘advisors and promoters’ of collaborative working. And through
investment in successful collaborative projects, the effiency and effectiveness
of funders’ investments will also be improved.”
