Miliband has been promoted to his first cabinet-level post
in a predictable move that will, nevertheless, disappoint
the third sector.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has promoted the former minister
for the third sector to secretary for the Cabinet Office.
Miliband, who had previously worked as Brown’s special
advisor and is said to be close to the new Prime Minister,
had been hotly tipped to be promoted under Brown’s
premiership. But third sector leaders had called on Brown
to keep him in post for another year.
Miliband’s successor is expected to be announced
on 29 June.
