Research UK and Oxfam have launched a sector-wide initiative
to share best practice on promoting, managing and claiming
Gift Aid, while the government has launched a consultation
on measures to increase take-up of the tax relief scheme.
The Gift Aid Best Practices Forum was launched on 26 June
at HM Treasury, which essentially laid out how the Forum
was to move forward, while also discussing current issues
and concerns surrounding Gift Aid. Sioned Jones, head of
business support at Oxfam GB said: “Working together,
sharing expertise and best practice on Gift Aid is a great
step forward for the sector. Ultimately we hope that it
will lead to better protection and an increase to this income
stream for charities.”
Meanwhile, at the launch of the government’s Gift
Aid consultation on 19 June, Stephen Timms, chief secretary
to the Treasury, said: “Take up of Gift Aid currently
stands at around a third of donations, delivering support
for charities worth £828 million per year. We all
want to see this improve, and this consultation is the first
step towards realising that goal.”
