Charities do not fear expensive insurance claims will be
made against them, and are far more concerned about the
withdrawal of funding and the protection of their image,
according to new research from Ecclesiastical.
In a recent survey, just 5% of charities said that insurance
claims are a serious threat facing their future. In contrast,
64% were worried about funding being withdrawn, and 17%
had concerns about protecting reputation and public image.
Changes is social policy were a worry to 9%.
Despite the perception that insurance worries are a major
reason for cancelled public events, only 3% of charities
admitted to calling off an event due to their fears.
“Despite what people might think, insurance isn’t
a major stumbling block for charities,” said Ecclesiastical
chief underwriting manager Chris Lees. “If charities
use proper risk management techniques, keep in touch with
their broker and use a specialist insurer they can be confident
they’re properly protected.”
