Charities should enter ‘pre-nuptial agreements’
before partnering, according to new guidance published by
the NCVO.
The guidance helps organisations draw up a joint working
agreement to establish the relationship between two charities
wishing to form a partnership. It also explains why such
an agreement is important, and offers advice on what to
do if you want to exit the partnership.
Kate Aldous, NCVO’s collaborative working unit manager,
said it recommends being open with a potential working partner
and setting this out in a written agreement before committing.
“The process of putting it together can help identify
potential problems and misunderstandings,” she said.
“The finished product can give clarity and focus to
your work, help you to review your partnership, and of course
is useful if you decide to go your separate ways. It certainly
contributes to a happy and successful relationship.”
