| In
a departure from its traditional volunteer placements, VSO
has launched a new programme placing senior and board level
managers from the private, public and voluntary sectors in
consultancy and advisory positions with organisations in the
developing world.
VSO’s troubleshooter initiative is currently
seeking 300 new volunteers with proven track records in
leadership, strategy and development, among other skills.
These troubleshooters will be working with national and
local organisations on issues ranging from small business
development to HIV and AIDS to education, with the ultimate
goal of strengthening local organisations so they can work
more efficiently.
Director of VSO UK, Judith Brodie, said troubleshooters
would play a different but complementary role to traditional
placements, describing each as equally valuable. “A
long-term volunteer has to gradually immerse themselves
in their new role and community, but a troubleshooter has
to hit the ground running and achieve a huge amount in a
short space of time,” she said.
VSO is currently recruiting troubleshooters for positions
starting in September, with assignments lasting from two
weeks to six months. Visit www.vso.org.uk
