Cause related marketing raised £58.2 million for good causes in 2003,
seeing a rise of 15% on 2002.
This is the third successive
year that an increase has been measured by the Business in the Community
Cause Related Marketing Tracker. It found that 67 businesses organised
82 cause related marketing programmes to raise the money; £24 million
of which came from staff, customer and supplier fundraising.
The retail sector raised the
majority of funds. It donated £44 million, 72% of the total amount
and a 24.2% increase on 2002.
Sixty four charities
benefited from the money. The most popular cause was health, which received
over £25 million, however, developmental organisations enjoyed a
significant increase in the amount donated. Figures rose from £200,000
in 2002 to over £9.5 million in 2003, a rise largely due to cause
related marketing programmes supporting Comic Relief.
