NCVO calls on government to make regulation issue a priority 10/01/06

The NCVO has repeated its call to government to “underline its commitment to reducing regulation” by implementing the recommendations made by the Better Regulation Task Force (BRTF) report, following the publication of the Legislative & Regulatory Reform Bill.

The Bill, which aims to make it quicker and easier to tackle unnecessary or over-complicated regulation, will also help to deliver some of the wide-scale reforms announced in the Better Regulation Action Plan in May last year.

NCVO says that the BRTF report, Better Regulation for Civil Society, highlights a number of areas where regulation is a burden and how these issues could be addressed, including inflexible or disproportionate reporting and the costs of irrecoverable VAT.

“While we welcome the government’s continued commitment to reducing the burden of regulation, we urge them to implement the BRTF’s recommendations at the earliest opportunity. This would make a real and tangible difference to voluntary and community organisations,” said Stuart Etherington, chief executive of NCVO.
