First CIC joins acevo 17/02/06

The first Community Interest Company (CIC) has signed up for membership to the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations, and acevo is encouraging other CICs to do the same.

Hooper Walker, which became a CIC in 2005, is a criminal justice consultancy and penal specialist. Commenting on its joining acevo, Steven Bubb, acevo’s CEO, said: “We were closely involved with the DTI in the creation of the legal form for CICs, and believe these new companies offer exciting opportunities for the sector, especially in light of the NOMs debate and the Health White Paper.”

Further information on legal structures for CICs and social enterprises can be found on acevo’s website. Visit www.acevo.org.uk/legalforms
