trustees will soon be able to benefit from National Occupation Standards
(NOS) guidance from the Voluntary Sector National Training Organisation
(VSNTO).
VSNTO has been successful
in its bid for funding to develop the standards which are to be tailored
specifically for trustees and management committee members. NOS are used
to define good practice in the way people work.
This is the second
time the organisation has applied for funding from the Qualifications
Curriculum Authority (QCA) – the first application was rejected
on the grounds that the other standards, which had already been developed
and included management and administration, already covered the remit
of the trustees.
Karen Hale-Robertson,
standard development officer for the VSNTO, said: “It was made much
clearer in the revised bid that the work of a trustee or management committee
member differs from the role of a traditional manager. The National Occupational
Standards will reflect this and demonstrate exactly what is needed to
make a good trustee.”
The VSNTO is also furthering its service for users of the NOS in Managing
Volunteers and Fundraising with the launch of a new discussion forum.
It is hoped that the forum will provide opportunities for people to share
advice and experiences.
