London Councils has announced £6 million in funding
for organisations working to fight homelessness in the capital.
The grant maker received 22 applications for funding, from
which it commissioned 13 groups aiming to provide services
to some 11,000 people. Those receiving funding include Barnardo’s
Families in Temporary Accommodation Project, London Irish
Women’s Centre and the Alcohol Recovery Project. The
£6 million will be distributed over four years.
Chair of London Councils Grants Committee, Paul McCannah,
said: “It is very difficult for homeless people to
change their lives. If people don’t have a home it
is difficult to find work, and because they don’t
have work they can’t afford to find a home. The services
we have commissioned are aimed at helping break that cycle
and give homeless people a new chance in life.”
