The Institute of Fundraising is calling for applicants
to join a voluntary working party to guide the organisation’s
code of conduct for face-to-face fundraising.
The group will be responsible for including ‘prospecting’,
where fundraisers’ initial contact with a potential
donor is not in the form of a direct request for cash, in
the best practice code.
Megan Pacey, director of policy and campaigns at the Institute,
said: “It is vital that the codes of fundraising practice
are flexible enough to take on board evolving practice.
To the general public on the street, ‘prospecting’
looks very much like face-to-face fundraising, but at present
is not covered within the scope of the face-to-face code.”
Members of the working party are required to have a knowledge
of ‘prospecting’ and face-to-face fundraising
techniques, be able to think creatively about communicating
messages about fundraising, and be committed to accountability
and transparency in the third sector.
Nominations to join the group should be submitted to the
Institute by 31 August. Expressions of interest should be
emailed to codes@institute-of-fundraising.org.uk
