British fundraisers make the grade 17/08/04

The first Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) exams have taken place in the UK, with 77% of the candidates passing the four-hour test.

The internationally recognised certificate, which can only be applied for by fundraising professionals with five or more years’ experience, involves a range of practical and theoretical tests. Candidates have to demonstrate knowledge in all areas of fundraising, display performance in raising funds and undertake voluntary service. In order to keep the credential, CFRE’s must re-certify every three years.

The 17 candidates who passed the exam join around 4,500 professionals worldwide who hold the CFRE. Brought to Britain by The Association of Fundraising Consultants (AFC) it is hoped that such accreditation will contribute towards raising standards within the third sector.

Chair of AFC, Andrew Day, said: “We want to raise professional standards and the CFRE offered the best way for time-poor senior fundraisers to demonstrate that they are world class.”

The next session of exams are due to take place in October. For more information contact Andrew Day CFRE via Aday@ComptonInternational.co.uk or call 01926 614 555.
