Kite mark makes for happier volunteers 05/04/06

Volunteers are more likely to have a good volunteering experience if they are working in organisations with the Investing in Volunteers quality kite mark, according to a new study by the Centre for Voluntary Action Research at Aston Business School.

The main findings of Impact of Investing in Volunteers showed that organisations using the standard had improved their practices, hence improving the conditions for their volunteers, and that volunteers expressed ‘pride’ in their organisation’s Investing in Volunteers status.

The Standard consists of ten indicators of volunteer management best practice, supported by 55 additional practices based on four areas of volunteer management: planning for volunteer involvement; recruiting volunteers; selecting and matching volunteers; and supporting and retaining volunteers.

Investing in Volunteers is managed by the four development agencies of the UK Volunteering Forum: Volunteering England; Volunteer Development Scotland; Volunteer Development Agency in Northern Ireland; and Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
