| TRAINING
ON TAX-EFFECTIVE GIVING TO BE TAKEN ROUND THE UK |

The
Directory of Social Change (DSC) and The Giving Campaign have joined forces
to introduce a regional tax-effective giving training programme for charities.
The training will be in four key regions: London, Bristol, Glasgow and the
East Midlands, and will run throughout the autumn.
Amanda Delew, Director of The Giving Campaign, comments: "The bottom line
is that methods are still not being used or promoted to full effect by many
charities. The DSC's extensive distribution reach coupled with in-depth
knowledge of the sector, means it is ideally positioned to train on how
to make the most of the tax regime."
Meena Varma, deputy chief executive at the DSC, comments: "I'm delighted
that we are in a position to be able to continue and further develop the
work The Giving Campaign has been doing in training charities to make better
use of the tax-effective giving schemes.
"We hope to be able to extend the Campaign's good work by rolling our
training programme out on a regional basis, getting out to some of those
areas where smaller, local charities are operating -many of whom still don't
know how Gift Aid works."
The Giving Campaign was launched as a three-year initiative to 'kickstart'
charitable giving and to help promote the tax reliefs introduced in Budget
2000. Although the Campaign is scheduled to close in June 2004, a number
of work areas have future potential and these projects will be handed over
to the relevant organisations that are most closely suited to continue this
work.
The DSC's adoption of the Campaign's tax-effective giving training programme
is the second announcement of work to be continued beyond the lifetime of
the Campaign, following the news that Giving Nation - the dynamic youth
campaign that promotes charity in schools - has been transferred to Citizenship
Foundation.
