ONLINE REGENERATION DATA FOR THE WORST-AFFECTED AREAS 14/04/04

A new website providing data on regeneration projects to make the whole system more accessible for interested parties has been developed by the government.

Floor Targets Interactive (FTI) is aimed at those involved in deprivation-related Public Service Agreement (PSA) Floor Targets, which try to narrow the gap between the most disadvantaged areas and the overall average.

FTI contains data for all of England's local councils down to district level, although the focus is on the 88 most disadvantaged areas that receive Neighbourhood Renewal Funds.

The system is built on data that is already publicly available, but has been brought together from the government departments responsible for improving health, employment, crime, education and housing.

FTI aims to make this existing data more accessible and provides a mapping tool so the user can create visual aids. The site should be of particular interest to regeneration practitioners, who will be able to identify their position and progress in relation to other areas with similar characteristics as they develop their own policies.

Jeff Rooker, Minister for Regeneration in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, welcomed the launch saying: "ODPM is committed to ensuring that regeneration activities are based on sound evidence of what works. Floor Targets Interactive will enable all those involved in neighbourhood renewal to identify priority areas, monitor progress, and compare themselves with others.

"Floor Targets Interactive also reflects ODPM's commitment to open and accessible government. This resource allows for the analysis, mapping and interrogation of existing data via an interactive website that is freely available and easy to use."
