MERGED LOTTERY FUNDERS GET NEW NAME FOR FUTURE TOGETHER 06/04/04

The new lottery distribution group, formed by the merger of the Community Fund and New Opportunities Fund, will be called the Big Lottery Fund.

Stephen Dunmore, Chief Executive of the new organisation, which will be responsible for distributing over half of all national Lottery funding, welcomed the announcement by the Secretary of State Tessa Jowell of the name.

He said: "Today's announcement is an important step in the creation of the new distributor. The message is simple: the Big Lottery Fund which will distribute half of all National Lottery funding will play a key role in tackling disadvantage and improving the quality of life in communities.

"I believe the name will help re-connect the public with the national lottery. This is an exciting time for the new distributor and plans are being developed for the Big Lottery Fund to pioneer innovative methods of public involvement in the way lottery money is distributed."
