Sir Bert Massie CBE, former chairman of the Disability
Rights Commission, has been appointed as the new Commissioner
for the Compact.
Massie has had a long and varied career, having spent the
last 40 years campaigning for disability rights, while sitting
on a number of government advisory committees. He will take
over at the Compact Commission on 1st April.
Commenting on his appointment, head of policy at Acevo,
Seb Elsworth, said: “The Compact needs a strong Commissioner,
and Sir Bert’s experience championing the rights of
the disabled at the Disability Rights Commission makes him
well-placed to ensure that the principles in the Compact
are backed up by a robust and influential Commission.”
