New Compact Commissioner appointed 19/03/08

Sir Bert Massie CBE, former chairman of the Disability Rights Commission, has been appointed as the new Commissioner for the Compact.

Massie has had a long and varied career, having spent the last 40 years campaigning for disability rights, while sitting on a number of government advisory committees. He will take over at the Compact Commission on 1st April.

Commenting on his appointment, head of policy at Acevo, Seb Elsworth, said: “The Compact needs a strong Commissioner, and Sir Bert’s experience championing the rights of the disabled at the Disability Rights Commission makes him well-placed to ensure that the principles in the Compact are backed up by a robust and influential Commission.”
