CAFAmerica announced its plans to assist a US based public/private
partnership to distribute over $500,000 to help empower
women across countries with significant Muslim populations.
The One Woman Initiative revealed its first grants to five
grassroots organizations in Azerbaijan, Egypt, India, Pakistan
and the Philippines.
The OWI grants are being made to locally focused organisations
for programmes providing women access to legal rights, political
participation and economic development.
Formed just last year, OWI is an international women’s
empowerment fund that hopes to raise some $100 million in
the next five years to help empower women to achieve a local
difference and a global impact.
To assist OWI, CAFAmerica is helping to manage the funds
raised from individuals and companies, to make the grants
and to provide the initiative with an independent voice.
A part of the Charities Aid Foundation’s international
network, CAFAmerica provides charitable financial services
to nonprofits, individuals and companies. Spanning six continents
and managing over $4 billion of charitable funds, the CAF
International Network works with donors, companies and charities
to facilitate a culture of giving by offering products and
services that make giving easier.
CAF helps charities to make the most of donations by offering
banking and fundraising support.
Susan Saxon-Harrold, CEO of CAFAmerica is excited to be
working with the OWI. “The OWI was attracted to partnering
with us because of CAFAmerica’s 17 years of experience
in making safe and timely global grants and in this instance
our knowledge of local charities around the world that can
make an impact in the area of women and empowerment.”
One of the grants will be going to Pakistan’s Kashf
Foundation that plans to use the money to launch a rural
microfinance program focused on farming support which will
allow rural women to become self-sustaining and financially
independent, according to www.onewomaninitiative.org.
