Commission for the Compact publishes its first report 25/08/09
 

The Commission for the Compact, the independent body responsible for overseeing the Compact, has published its first Annual Report and Accounts for the period ended 31 March 2009.

During the period, the Commission for the Compact led a debate on the future of the Compact, with the aim of ensuring that the Compact continues to improve the quality of partnerships between the public and the third sector over the next ten years.

Sir Bert Massie CBE, commissioner for the Compact, said “2008 was the opportune time for an open debate about the future of the Compact. At the invitation of the Minister of the Third Sector, we carried this out during summer and autumn 2008.

"Moving forward, we are focused on the refresh of the Compact, bringing it up-to-date and ensuring its relevance today. The report shows the range of work the Commission has undertaken during the year to promote effective partnerships through the Compact that lead to benefits for individuals and communities.”

The report contains a review of the year highlighting key events and milestones. These include:

• The appointment of Sir Bert Massie CBE as Commissioner for the Compact and Richard Corden as Chief Executive.

• The Compact Debate which took place from 7 July 2008 to 10 November 2008 and generated responses from the statutory, public and third sectors.

• A new look website and the launch of the quarterly newsletter, Insight.

• Published research on the independence of third sector organisations, a study into what makes a successful Local Compact, a study into the relationships between hospices and Primary Care Trusts, a legal review of the Compact’s Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Code and related legislation, the Concise Compact Guide and implementation guidance on commissioning.

• Compact Week 2008, the national awareness week to promote the Compact, which took place from 1 to 8 November 2008.

• Compact Awards 2008, the annual awards recognising excellence in partnership working.

• A reception at No 11 Downing Street to mark the tenth anniversary of the Compact.

• The Ninth Annual Meeting to review the Compact which took place on 2 December 2008.

The Pensions Trust
