| WINNER:
Cumbria Community Foundation |
| The
Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund Appeal was launched in 9 January
2005, one day after storms hit the region, with resulting
floods and damage. So far the fund has raised £750,000,
and from this awards have been benefiting over 1,500 people.
With organised media briefings, and lessons learnt from
the 2001 foot and mouth appeal, the key strength of this
campaign was its fast and efficient use of resources to
get relief to those affected quickly and effective use
of technology. |

| SHORTLIST:
Action for Blind People |
| The
Sunflower Power campaign gives schools the chance to be
involved in a nationwide sunflower growing competition,
teaching students about the natural world while also giving
them the chance to help blind and partially sighted people
all over the UK. The 2004 campaign involved 509 schools,
bringing in over £60,000 in revenue from sponsorship,
and helped promote the understanding of disabilities to
over 3,000 children. Creating funds for both the organisation
itself and participating schools, the creative, simple
and engaging campaign provided a learning tool and an
encouragement to take an active part in helping others. |

Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy |
| Following
the death of her daughter Jennifer at 7 months, Anita
Macaulay set up the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular
Atrophy. Angel Funds is the name given to the campaign
for tribute funds, each fund named in celebration of a
loved one. The campaign requires an especially sensitive
approach, in order to collect potential donors and bring
them into Gift Aid schemes. Angel Funds use ‘pew
envelopes’ in order to capture this information,
and then used carefully considered materials to make the
potential donors aware of the donor options. The campaign
has generated more funds than originally targeted since
its launch in January 2004, and 68 Angel Funds have now
been established. Donors are now organising their own
campaigns such as walkathons, and the concept continues
to grow in a variety of related events |
