| Peace
Direct was established in February 2004, when the Woodstock
Research Trust adopted a new name, new trustees and new
charitable goals. Since then it has developed a programme
of activity to help it meet its goals, which include supporting
grassroots peacebuilding in areas of conflict by reducing
arms in circulation and establishing alternative mechanisms
to resolve war and tension. It chooses to fund projects
in three ways: one off grants; long-term support and rapid
response funding. It also supports overseas projects by
linking them with UK groups for mutual learning. |

SHORTLIST: Arrhythmia Alliance |
A
coalition of charities, professional medical groups
and industry partners, ArrhytmiaAlliance (A-A), is working
to promote timely and effective diagnosis and treatment
of cardiac arrhytmias. The group formed in order to
promote Arrhytmia Awareness Week in 2004. Since then
a new chapter has been added to the NSF on Coronary
Heart Disease, which urges specialists to screen patients
for the condition, and Trudie Lobban, one of the charity's
trustees now sits on the new programme board to ensure
local primary care trusts are aware of the new chapter
and its recommendations. Following recently media coverage,
mainly covering Tony Blair's atrial flutter ablation
procedure, the A-A has received more than 670 phone
calls, 105 emails and 84 letters asking for information.
Volunteers are currently dealing with this interest
and the A-A is keen to establish a helpline which will
act as a crucial lifeline to sufferers and their families.
It also intentds to lobby for better funding and training
of arrhytmia professionals. |

Global Angels |
| Launched
by Molly Bedingfield, the mother of pop stars, Daniel
and Natasha Bedingfield, in June 2005, Global Angels is
dedicated to relieving the suffering of children worldwide.
Raising money via high profile televised concerts and
events featuring international celebrities and artists,
the organisation aims to support international and domestic
charities, which are making a significant difference to
the lives of children and their communities. Each project
it funds must adhere to a strict standard of child care
and best practice, for example, UNICEF Rights of the Child.
It also promises that for every £1 raised from the
public through its televised events, £1 will go
directly to support projects working with children. Additional
funds will be raised through corporate partnerships..
One deal has already been struck with a major global toy
company whoch has promised to give a percentage of the
sales right across the globe from one of its biggest toy
ranges. |

GrantScape |
| A
grant-making charity formed in February 2004 to replace
eight environmental bodies making grants under the Landfill
Tax Credit Scheme, GrantScape's vision is to improve the
life of communities and the environment by channelling
charitable funding towards deserving and quality projects.
Underpinning its purpose and vision, are five objectives
whihch focus on good governance and compliance. With this
in mind, the charity is undertaking a trustee board skills
audit with the intention of supplementing any gaps either
through training or recruitment of new trustees. |
