WINNER:
Luke FitzHerbert
A
tireless campaigner and champion of small charities,
Luke FitzHerbert worked for the Directory of Social
Change for more than 20 years. The former teacher was
deputy director of the organisation from 1984 to 1995
and went on to work as its senior researcher. Luke sadly
passed away in January 2007. In a tribute to him former
NCVO chairman Peter Jay described him as "embodying
independence of mind in its purest form. No influence,
no doctrine, no -ism, no fashion deflected his opinions
or his actions from the course which appealed to his
reason, his instincts and his adamantine sense of justice.
He belonged to no type and conformed to no template."
