New SORP committee members announced

The new SORP committee has been announced, to be chaired by Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator head of enforcement Laura Anderson and Charity Commission head of accountancy services Nigel Davies.

The sector-based expert SORP committee advises the joint SORP-making body, comprising the Charity Commission and the OSCR, in its development of the Statements of Recommended Practice for charity accounting.

The committee includes charity finance directors, charity auditors, and members reflecting broader charity sector and academic interests.

Sector body members include Charity Finance Group chief executive Caron Bradshaw, Simon Ling of the National Association of Almshouses, and ICTR executive director Sheila Nordon. Royal National Lifeboat Institution head of financial support and development Darren Spivey is a practitioner member.

Representatives from funders, commentators, and academia include Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts financial controller Mark Hill, Wolfson Foundation FD Geoff Hunt. Professor Noel Hyndman of Queens University Belfast and nfpSynergy’s Joe Saxton also sit on the committee.

The committee peer-reviews the on-going development of the new SORPs, and identifies issues for review, discussion and inclusion in the statements. It is expected members will serve until 2018.

Focus Ireland’s acting director of finance and administration Pat Dennigam, Cancer UK finance regulatory and taxes manager Richard Bray, and The Rehab Group’s Tom Connaughton are among committee members.

Auditor/independent manager members include Deloitte senior manager Sarah Anderson, Michael Brougham, Kenneth McDowell, Grant Thornton’s Carol Rudge, Wylie & Bissett’s Jenny Simpson, and Mark Spofforth of Spofforth’s Chartered Accountants.
