Facebook is set to award up to $10m (£722,000) in grants to community leaders as part of the Facebook Community Leadership Programme, which aims to fund people creating and leading communities.

The programme is designed to empower leaders from around the world who are building communities. Through the Facebook family of apps and services, the programme includes training, support and funding for community leaders from around the world and the ability to meet and network.

Up to five leaders will be selected to be community leaders in residence, and each awarded $1m (£720,000) to fund their proposals.

Up to 100 leaders will then be selected for the Facebook fellowship programme, and will each receive up to $50,000 (£36,000) to be used for a specific community initiative.

The announcement was one of many made at Facebook Communities Summit in Europe, which saw over 300 community leaders from across Europe gather in London.

Applications are now open for the residency and fellowship. To learn more and apply, visit communities.fb.com.
