Appointments update 30 June

• Arthritis Research UK has appointed Adrienne Skelton as its new strategic development director.

Skelton brings 14 years of charitable sector experience to the role. She joins from Macmillan Cancer Support where she was head of evidence, contributing insight to the new cancer strategy for England, developing an external-facing data aspirations strategy across the four UK nations and a programme of 30 system-redesign evaluations.

• Autism research charity Autistica has appointed Jon Spiers as the new chief executive.

Spiers joins from healthcare consultancy Just:: Health Communications, where he was head of public affairs. He was previously head of public affairs and campaigning at Cancer Research UK, leading high profile campaigns on issues including cancer screening, radiotherapy and charity finance.

• Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales has appointed Baroness Rennie Fritchie DBE as its new chair.

Baroness Fritchie’s experience includes a post as chair of the not-for-profit IT company Nominet, independent crossbencher in the House of Lords, and patron of charities including Winston’s Wish, Pied Piper Appeal and Odyssey. She is also the former vice chair of Stroud & Swindon Building Society and the former president of Women in Banking. For seven years she was the Commissioner for Public Appointments for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and Civil Service Commissioner.

Baroness Fritchie will assume the position from 1 July.

• Sir Howard Davies has been appointed as the London Library’s new chair. He succeeds Bill Emmott, whose second term comes to an end in November 2015.

Sir Howard has been director-general of the CBI, deputy governor of the Bank of England, chair of the Financial Services Authority, director of the London School of Economics and independent director of Morgan Stanley. He currently chairs the Airports Commission, is an independent director of Prudential, and will become chair of the Royal Bank of Scotland in September.

From 2002 to 2010 he was a trustee of the Tate Gallery, and was a member of the governing body of the Royal Academy of Music from 2004 to 2013. In 2011 he joined the board of the Royal National Theatre.
