The Charity Commission has endorsed the Insync 2010 Quality Standards of the National Council of YMCAs.
This comes as part of the Commission’s Quality Standards Endorsement Progamme, which supports the development of quality standards used to assess how well charities are run.
YMCA England (212810) is the umbrella body for the 135 independent YMCAs working across England to support young people, especially in times of need or crisis.
The Insync 2010 standards define best practice for individual YMCAs and will be used to accredit those YMCAs that achieve the standards.
The Commission has helped YMCA develop the Insync 2010, which is now formally endorsed.
The Commission’s endorsement process assesses whether the quality standards are in line with the Commission’s guidance Hallmarks of and Effective Charity and whether the accreditation process meets the requirements of the Commission’s Terms of Endorsement.
Sam Younger, chief executive of the Charity Commission, said: “I am delighted that we are able to endorse YMCA England’s Insync 2010 standards. The standards demonstrate that the YMCA family of charities is committed to developing, implementing and monitoring best practice in their organisations. This is one of the many ways in which we are working with charities to help them become as effective as possible”.
YMCA England Chief Executive Ian Green said: "We are thrilled to have our Insync Quality Standards endorsed in 2010 by the Charity Commission. Insync is an extremely effective way to ensure YMCAs across England can develop, implement and monitor best practice across the organisation. Insync will enable YMCAs to continue providing quality services to those young people and communities who need it most in the future."
Other charities whose quality standards have been recently endorsed by the Commission include Community Foundation Network, Mind and ACRE.
