Big Issue charity ramps up digital fundraising for spring appeal

The Big Issue Foundation has strengthened its online and mobile giving functions ahead of a spring fundraising push.

The charity, which supports the needs of Big Issue sellers, has linked up with digital donations platform Donr to improve its digital payment functions.

For the first time it will be able accept donations via digital wallet services such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Donr has also helped develop a new text giving function for the charity, following the closure last month of Just Giving Foundation and Vodafone’s JustTextGiving service.

The public will be able to make a donation using Donr’s text shortcode number 70085.

In addition, Donr is hosting an online fundraising page for the charity.

The move comes as the Big Issue Foundation launches its spring appeal to raise awareness of the support it gives to sellers of the magazine.

Big Issue Foundation individual giving and support services manager Rhia Docherty said: “‘We’re really excited to be partnering with Donr to launch our Spring Appeal. Donr’s Text Giving service is very effective, affordable and easy to use.

“This is also the first time we have been able to accept donation’s via digital wallet services like Apple Pay and Google Pay. Donr’s innovative platform will help us to future-proof donations in the digital age.’

Th charity’s spring appeal stars a former vendor Bill Webb, who was offered support for his dog Chloe, healthcare and housing needs.

Bill said: ““It was so important to me that The Big Issue Foundation team focused on helping me access healthcare when I first walked through the door and started selling the magazine. Liam, a Service Broker assessed my immediate and longer-term needs.

“My medication had run out so Liam arranged for me to see a doctor and Chloe was registered with The Dogs Trust so she could stay healthy too! I’m so grateful for the support of The Big Issue Foundation, knowing that they are there to help me”.
