£10m raised in Tesco, Diabetes UK, and BHF partnership

Tesco, Diabetes UK, and the British Heart Foundation have raised £10m in 16 months, the partners have announced.

Around 300,000 UK Tesco colleagues are raising money for the National Charity Partnership to tackle heart disease and diabetes.

Tesco is committed to raising £30m for the partnership, which formed in January 2015. Half the money raised will fund a joint project aimed at helping millions of people to improve their health, and the remainder will be split equally between both charities.

Money donated to the BHF from the National Charity Partnership will be invested in various initiatives, including Professor Mark Hanson’s research focused on how the environment in which a child develops in the womb influences health risks in later life.

Diabetes UK will use the funds for initiatives including its helpline, and information packs for parents of children newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Programme director for the National Charity Partnership Jenna Hall praised the dedication of Tesco staff in supporting the cause.

“Thanks to their support, we have already begun investing money into joint prevention projects across the UK which are helping millions of people to improve their health.”
